ABOUT
Captain Darius learned how to sail on the waters of Lake Montauk. He started on sailing dinghies which led him to keel boats. He has skippered many boats, ranging from 20 feet to 40 feet. He has blue water experience and has done private charters in the Caribbean. He holds a USCG OUPV license and is also an American Sailing Association (ASA) instructor. He is Red Cross certified in CPR, AED and First Aid. He has instructed adults and teens in Montauk, New York Harbor, Biscayne Bay and the Caribbean.
Private Charters
Our skippered charters are private sailing trips with our captain on a Catalina 22 sailboat. When you book a private charter it will just be your party and a skipper on board.
Taste of Sailing 2 hours sail 10am-12pm, 2pm-4pm
Sail with our Captain and experience what it's like to be crew on a sloop. Hoist the sails, trim the sheets, take the tiller, then sit back with a cool beverage in hand. Listen to the soothing sounds of the boat as it glides through the water using only the power of the wind.
Rates: $150 per couple, $50 for each additional passenger, $30 for each child under 12.
Swim Package 3 hour sail 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm
Get a Taste of Sailing and some swim time, it's the best of both worlds! Learn the basics, then tie off for a cool swim. Relaxed and refreshed, sail back to the dock just in time for lunch or dinner.
Rates: $225 per couple, $50 for each additional passenger, $30 for children under 12.
Sunset Sail 2 hour sail 6pm-8pm
Like the Taste of Sailing , do as much or as little as you want, then enjoy the beautiful sunset with your sweetheart or some friends. Bring a bottle of champagne or wine to enjoy. Back at the dock, sit around the bonfire and listen to live music.
Rates: $175 per couple, $50 for each additional passenger, $30 for children under 12.
*Boats comfortablly hold 4 passengers, can accomodate up to 6 at your request.*
Tandem Sailing
For larger groups, book multiple boats and sail along side each other flotilla style, raft up for picnic parties and swimming, or experience a head to head race around bouys and gain bragging rights for the season. Perfect for bachelorette parties, corporate events, family reunions and team building workshops.
Rates : $125 per boat per hour. 2 boats, 3 hour minimum. Up to 5 passengers per boat, 4 boats maximum. Contact us for custom charters.
Tandem sailing must be booked at least a week in advance.
Bareboat Charter
Already know how to sail? Rent a Catalina 22 sailboat for some daysailing. Create ever lasting memories when you Sail Montauk .

Private Lessons
If you want some one on one time, book a private lesson and learn at your own pace!
Rates: $75 per hour, 2 hour min. Bring a friend for just $25 more per hour!
Intro to Sailing Class (6 hour, one day class)
If you have always wanted to learn how to sail but not sure if sailing is for you then this one day course will introduce you to the sport. Learn parts of the boat and their functions, experience sailing the boat by trimming the sails, tacking, gybing and steering a course. Classes are 6 hours, 9am-3pm with a lunch break.
Rates: $375 per couple, $125 for each additional passenger.

Basic Keel Boat Sailing Course (16 hour, two day class)
Come learn to sail with us and kick off your sailing career! Our Basic Keel Boat Sailing course is perfect for beginners or if you're just a bit out of practice. You will learn aboard a Catalina 22 sailboat which is very comfortable and easy to handle. Courses are limited to 4 students per boat and you will get plenty of personalized attention and hands-on experience.

The Catalina 22 is a popular sailboat produced by Catalina Yachts. Its hull measures 21 foot 6 inches (6.55 m), which is rounded up to 22 feet (6.7 m) for use in the model's name. First produced in 1968, it is one of the longest continuously produced sailboats in the world.

FAQs
Where do you operate from?
We operate out of the Marina at Rick's Crabby Cowboy Cafe, 435 East Lake Drive. It's a great place to start and end your sail. You can stop in for lunch or dinner, and stay for cocktails and live music in the evening.
What happens if there's bad weather?
We reserve the right to determine if the weather will prevent sailing on any given day. Full refunds or rescheduling will be made for Taste of Sailing and Sunset Sailing cruises. Rescheduling or half refund will be given if a day is canceled on our 2 day Discover Sailing charter. Friday is the make up day for the Basic Sailing Course. If 2 or more days are canceled then a refund for those days will be given or you have the option of rescheduling for another full course at no additional charge, as available.
Cancellation Policy
-Cancellations made 7 days prior to a trip will be refunded 100%.
-Cancellations made 1-3 days prior to a trip will receive a 50% refund, but the 50% withheld may be applied to any other trip with Sail Montauk within the 2011 season (subject to availability).
-Cancellations made within 24 hours of a trip will not receive any refund, but 50% of the funds withheld may be applied to any other trip with Sail Montauk the 2011 season.
-Sail Montauk reserves the right to cancel a trip due to severe weather. Every attempt will be made to reschedule weather-canceled outings. Trips which are canceled due to weather which cannot be rescheduled, will be refunded 100%.
What type of clothing will I need?
Most people have all the necessary clothing in their wardrobe. A windbreaker, sweatshirt, t-shirt, jeans and shorts will get you started. You should also have some type of boat shoe or a sneaker with light-soles which will not mark up the boat.
Do you have any age restrictions?
Children must be at least age 12 and be accompanied by an adult for sailing trips unless they are enrolling for a Teen Camp week . We have life jackets for childres 50lbs and up.
Are adult beverages allowed on the sail?
Yes! Adult beverages are BYOB and are allowed on our Private Charters. We keep a cooler onboard with complimentary water, soft drinks and juices. For the Basic Sailing Course we ask that you wait until the end of the day's lesson to partake in adult libations.
